A Psychotherapy Group in the Village New York City was founded in 1993 by André Anthony Moore and a group of psychotherapists, counselors, social workers, family therapists, psychoanalysts, psychologists and psychiatrists - trusted colleagues whom André has come to know over the years and whose work he admires and respects.

We are neither a corporation nor a training
institute but individual therapists with practices in Manhattan, Brooklyn and
Queens, New York City who share knowledge, make referrals and rely upon one
another for peer guidance, advice and emotional support in our work. We provide
high quality, caring psychology counseling and therapy to individuals seeking help for a range of conditions and disorders.
In addition to holding graduate degrees in psychology, social work, medicine and philosophy, the members of A Psychotherapy Group in the Village have completed extensive course work and clinical training at:
Until recently, André was also on the faculty of The Contemporary Center for Advanced Psychoanalytic Studies in the Group Psychotherapy Training Program.
In the course of their work at these institutes, our members have spent years learning and studying in three areas Freud considered to be absolutely crucial in the training of good psychotherapists (spelled out in his paper, "The Question of Lay Analysis: Conversations with an Impartial Person," Standard Edition, vol. 20, p. 183). These areas are, in order of importance:
· A personal psychotherapy of long duration. In practice this means at least four years of their own in-depth psychoanalysis and/or uncovering psychotherapy, at least two and often three or more times a week, in many cases enhanced by group psychotherapy. The premise here is quite simple: You can't guide others through the difficult, complex and sometimes emotionally frightening process of uncovering psychotherapy unless you've been through it yourself.
